The Highlife BCN Cup for the highest scoring sample was won by a Critical Mass presented by Ortue in the Bio category.

The winning Critical Mass came from one of the first packages of Mr Nice Seeds bank bought in Kalamundua, Bilbao, almost four years ago. Among 4 females, one stood out for its smell and sharp leaves like a supersativa. After harvesting and drying the taste was incredible. We decided to keep her and when growing her cuttings we realized how fast she is both indoors and outdoors.

The buds are very resinous, fleshy and compact, with very few leaves on the whole plant. It has an extraordinary speed, outdoors it starts to be harvested at the beginning of September, and indoors it is ready between 48 and 55 days. It supports very well the fungi and the plagues, so it is very suitable for the guerrilla here in the north.

David Merino: “I had already been working with this genetics in Kalamundua for years, since we selected it with my friends Mikel and César, and the results were incredible. This Critical was starting to win awards and recognition, but from that moment on its fame spread throughout Spain.”

“Obviously, I aspired to win, but what I couldn’t imagine was what came next. In a matter of weeks, we began to receive orders from all over Spain and even from abroad. Ortue, as a distributor, began to grow, but the fame that our Kritikal was gaining day by day was, for us, a dream. Today, twenty years later, I look back with pride: the selection work, the recognitions that Kritikal Bilbo has obtained over the years, and the fact of being part of the history of such a legendary strain.”

ORTUE, keeps its scepter

After winning the first Highlife BCN cup, Ortue won again in the second edition with a Super Silver Haze, a variety that had already made history in Euskadi before winning in the Highlife BCN 2005. David’s triumph has not gone to his head, honest, humble, calm, he preaches that to obtain good weed you don’t need strange innovations, but to understand how the plant works.

“When you understand how a plant works it’s very easy to pull good weed.”

David Merino about Super Silver Haze:

Of the Super Silver Haze champion the best thing is its high, very “high”, super active, to do things and to go out, never to smoke before going to sleep. It also highlights its speed of 65 to 70 days, incredible in a sativa with this flavor to haze and with very good performance with large, fat and compact buds. A delight. Among all our varieties, it is the one with the most personality for a good connoisseur.

What is the secret of your repeated success as first bio?

The success will be that I am good at it and I use the right things, when you understand how a plant works it is very easy to get good weed with minimal attention.

You always have to be willing to learn, you never know everything, but with simplicity and good advice you will harvest good weed for sure. And above all a lot of pampering to the girls.

In Ortue we put ourselves at the level of each client, from beginners, which we have also been, to the most professional. We are always willing to learn and we try to teach as much as possible, because the important thing is that the beginner gets results and everyone is satisfied.
